Obtaining Romanian citizenship gives access to all the advantages of living, working, and studying in European Union countries. Holders of a Romanian passport may travel freely throughout the EU and more than 145 other countries worldwide, use the European healthcare system, study at leading universities, open bank accounts, and at the same time retain their original citizenship. In accordance with the Romanian Citizenship Law of 1 March 1991, foreign nationals are entitled to obtain a Romanian passport by descent, through naturalisation, or on the basis of marriage to a citizen of the country.
Obtaining a Bulgarian passport grants a foreign national all the rights of a European Union citizen — freedom of movement, employment, and education, as well as access to a developed healthcare system and banking services. A Bulgarian passport allows visa-free travel to more than 170 countries worldwide, including all Schengen Area states. Bulgarian law permits dual citizenship, allowing migrants to retain their original passport. The process is regulated by the Citizenship Act of the Republic of Bulgaria. The main grounds for obtaining citizenship are by descent, through naturalisation, or on the basis of marriage to a citizen of the country.
An immigration lawyer provides the Romanian citizenship applicant with a detailed consultation, during which each stage of the programme is explained and all questions raised by the applicant are answered.
A family tree is reconstructed to confirm that the applicant has grounds for obtaining Romanian citizenship. The documents are collected by lawyers, while the applicant provides information about close relatives in a special questionnaire.
The specialists prepare all mandatory documents of the applicant, carry out their professional translation from Russian into Romanian, and have them notarised.
A licensed lawyer submits the prepared dossier to the Ministry of Justice. After the successful registration of the documents, the case is assigned a number (dosar), by which the applicant may track the status of the application on the official portal of the Ministry of Justice in the “Orders” section.
The applicant is issued a citizenship certificate, on the basis of which the lawyers arrange Romanian documents for him or her — registration of residence, marriage certificate (if required), ID card, and biometric international passport.
