Greek Citizenship

A citizen of Greece is entitled to work in any EU Member State without obtaining work permits or visas. This advantage is established by European Union law and applies pursuant to Directive 2004/38/EC and Regulation (EU) No. 492/2011.

Greek citizenship grants the right to enroll in European universities on the same terms as other EU citizens, including state-funded places and public funding programs. Diplomas from these universities are recognized by employers worldwide.

EU citizen status provides access to European markets and allows the registration and development of business in European Union countries. In addition, it provides access to a number of entrepreneurship support programs operating at national and EU-wide levels.

In accordance with EU legislation, citizens of Greece are entitled to state benefits, social allowances, subsidies, and pension provision on equal terms with citizens of other Member States.

EU passport holders gain access to the European healthcare system under a unified insurance program, without restrictions related to foreign national status.

Greek citizenship allows the opening of accounts in European banks and the arrangement of various loans and mortgages at interest rates from 1.5 % to 5 %, which is not available to third-country nationals.
